Our purpose:
We promote agents of food change. This means that we support the empowerment of women and youth to adopt healthier and sustainable food practices, actively promote them in their families and communities, and thereby become agents of food change.
Our Model
Nutriempowerment
We do this by implementing our Nutriempowerment model. This consists of focusing on women and youth who do not have the quantity and quality of food they need and embarking on a process with them to strengthen their self-esteem and provide them with knowledge in nutrition, agro-ecology, household economics, and socio-emotional areas.
The Nutriempowerment model is based on two types of activities: listening circles and experiential encounters.
Listening circles
Are safe spaces for collective trust building. They work to improve the management of the socio-emotional resources of these women and youth by giving them a voice for their pains and dreams and recognizing each other as human beings. This recognition of their ability to contribute to community development results in strengthening the social fabric of their food systems.
Experiential encounters
Are spaces for collective learning where women and youth have didactic formative experiences for better management and utilization of their nutritional, agricultural, and economic resources. The expected result is more structured household economies that allow for sustainable consumption of more and better foods.
What sets us apart?
We address a complex problem such as food insecurity through a model that bets on systemic change, and whose lever for change is women and youth. By becoming promoters of good food habits, they become ambassadors for these practices in their communities, allowing them to effectively act as true agents of food change.
Given that our approach is based on deep, real, and systemic changes, our organization is committed to “patient impact.” This is because our work focuses on triggering and maintaining new habits in the families we work with, which takes time. That is, we believe that in order to advance truly structural and comprehensive transformations, they must respond to gradual changes. For this reason, our work focuses on triggering new ideas, feelings, behaviors, and ultimately habits in the families and communities we work with.
Nutri Empoderamiento is thus a holistic model that allows us to approach our agents of change in the light of their contexts and their most human dimension.
